Saturday 12th November saw Clevedon swimmers meet
with contrasting fortune. On Saturday the Senior squad delivered
a disappointing Speedo League result down in Tiverton. A patchy
performance by the squad wasn't helped by no less than 5 disqualifications!
The fact that the team were drawn in the lane nearest to the judges
should not be used to excuse this. The impact of the disqualifications
was to put Clevedon into 6th place rather than the 4th place that
their times merited. Despite an overall lacklustre effort, Gary
Carpenter, George Harris, Ellena Ibal, Tom Jones, Will Powell, Megan
Prideaux, India Thomas, Harry Thornton and Liam Wakefield achieved
PB's. This result now puts Clevedon into the 'C' Final of the Speedo
League Div 2 and will mean that we need to swim at our best to avoid
relegation.
The following day, Sunday 13th, saw Clevedon swimmers
roar back to their stunning best. A large squad of girls and a couple
of brave lads represented Clevedon at the Brockworth, Cinderford
and Lydney Open at Gloucester's GL1 pool. Seventeen swimmers delivered
46 top 8 finishes (including 6 Gold, 8 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals)
and 40 PB's. Personal Bests came from Steve Bowen, Hayley Burston,
Sophie Feboul, Sophie Hicks, Lisa Hutchinson, Ellena Ibal, Chelsie
Kirman, Laura Neal, Megan Prideaux, Stephanie Reynolds, Tom Riddell,
Vicky Smith and India Thomas.
The highlights of a terrific day in a very fast
pool included the medal hauls of Sophie Feboul (4 Golds and a Silver)
and Ellena Ibal (2 Golds, 2 Silvers and a 6th). Ellena is swimming
faster every week and is now producing some very impressive performances.
If she continues to improve at this rate she will be competing at
the highest levels before much longer. Sophie Hicks knocked an amazing
10 seconds off her 100m IM time. Hayley Burston, Ellena Ibal, Laura
Neal and Megan Prideaux set PB's in every event they swam in.
The following Photo shows the squad from Gloucester
with their amazing medal haul.
