FASTER BY THE DOZEN

12 intrepid swimmers from Clevedon Swimming club competed in the Avalon Open at Millfield School over the weekend of 28th & 29th January. All of them can be extremely proud of their achievements, 10 came away with medals, 6 finishing in the top 3 to appear on the podium to receive their medals. Competition was stiff with swimmers travelling from all over the South West and from Wales. This must have helped 6 of the squad to gain qualifying times for entry into the Western Counties competition later on in the year. 27 Personal Best times topped off a very successful weekend.

Individual results were:

Steve Bowen - 1 Silver, 1 Bronze, 2 other medals, 5 PB's and 2 Western Counties times
Hayley Burston - 3 medals
Sophie Feboul - 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze, 2 other medals and 3 PB's
Lisa Hutchinson - 3 PB's
Ellena Ibal - 1 Bronze, 7 other medals and a Western Counties time
Chelsie Kirman - 1 Silver, 1 other medal, 6 PB's and a Western Counties time
Megan Prideaux - 1 Bronze, 4 other medals, a PB and 2 Western Counties times
Tom Riddell - 1 medal and 3 PB's
Vicky Smith - 1 medal
David Stewart - 2 medal , 2 PB's and 4 Western Counties times
India Thomas - 1 Silver, 2 Bronze, 1 other medal, 5 PB's and 2 Western Counties times

It's hard to pick highlights from such a collection of success, but Chelsie's 6 PB's in her new 'go faster' costume, India's 16 second 200 IM PB and Tom's 200 Backstroke time would take some beating. Joanna Cox swam terrifically, and Sophie Feboul was third placed girl in her age group, despite only competing in 6 events. Clevedon swimmers were massively over-represented in the medal table considering the size of the squad and an enjoyable and successful weekend was had by all.
