Clevedon swimmers have performed heroically and
with great success in the final of three weekends of swimming that
make up 'The Somersets'. 55 members of the club took part and the
statistics speak for themselves:- A total of 23.65 miles was swum.
There were 231 Personal Best times. 86 top 8 finishes and 31 Western
Counties qualifying or consideration times.
We have gained two new County Champions - George
Harris in the boys 10 and under 50m Butterfly and India Thomas in
the girls 11 year old 200m Butterfly and 100m Butterfly. Amber Summerell
gained a hat trick of silver medals in the 11 year old girls 50m,
100m and 200m Breaststroke.
In the overall standings Elizabeth Warnes finished
7th in the 9 year old girls, Stephanie Reynolds finished 8th in
the 10 year old girls, Amber Summerell finished 3rd in the 11 year
old girls and George Harris finished 5th in the 10 year old boys.
There are too many outstanding performances to
mention in any more detail, but the performance of our relay teams
gives some measure of the progress that the club is making up the
County pecking order. We gained 4 thirds, 1 fourth, 2 fifths and
1 seventh out of 8 swims - given the quality of the opposition clubs,
this is a remarkable achievement for Clevedon. Much of the credit
for this belongs with Head Coach, Rachel Aldington who has trained
the squad to a new peak of competitive excellence. Training preparations
culminated in a week of warm weather training in Lanzarote in an
Olympic sized pool earlier in the year.
It's now onward and upwards as far as the club
is concerned and swimmers are getting back into their training schedules
with renewed enthusiasm.
