News: Western Counties & Cotswold Yate

A busy weekend, over 29th April – 1st May, for Clevedon ASC saw the club represented by 8 swimmers in the Western Counties Youth Championships at Millfield School. It would have been 9, but Dave Stewart had to pull out due to a last minute injury. Even so, this was the highest number of swimmers to represent Clevedon in these championships in living memory and a tribute to the strength in depth that Head Coach Rachel Aldington has been able to nurture. Fittingly, Rachel herself was the top performer from the squad with a top 10 finish in the 100m Breaststroke. Steve Bowen, Hayley Burston, Ellena Ibal, Joe Iles and Megan Prideaux all set new PB's - Ellena swimming a particularly impressive sub 30 second 50m Freestyle in a long course pool.

Meanwhile, in the Cotswold series, a Clevedon Tigersharks squad missing many of its stars due to the Western Counties event, completed the group stage by booking their place in the 'B' Final at Keynsham in two weeks time. Clevedon finished third on the night behind Southwold and Bishopsworth, but are in pole position for success in the final. Chelsie Kirman (2), Matt Morgan and Stef Reynolds (2) won individual races. Stef Reynolds, Laura Neal, India Thomas, Amy Sykes, Lindsey Allen, Vicky Smith, Alison Feboul, Amber Summerell and Rosemary Harris were in victorious relay teams.

Chelsie Kirman, Tom Riddell, Lee Hicks, Ben Horner, Rosemary Harris, Matt Morgan, Sam Thornton, Stef Reynolds and Ryan Neath gained new PB's. Alison Feboul could not resist the whiff of the chlorine and, in a bid to help out, swam for the Tigersharks despite retiring from the sport two weeks previously.
