Clevedon swimmers have represented the club at
the highest levels over the past few weeks. Squad Coach, Rachel
Aldington, has led from the front by competing in the British Masters
National Championships in Manchester over the 16th-18th June. She
powered to a silver medal in the 800m Freestyle in the 25 - 29 age
group. Not bad for a Breaststroker!
Steve Bowen, Megan Prideaux, Ellena Ibal, Dave
Stewart, Gary Carpenter, Neil Carpenter, Hayley Burston, Rachel
Aldington, and Joe Iles all qualified for the Western Counties Youth
Championships at Millfield School and all competed with some distinction.
Rachel narrowly missed out on the 200m Breastroke final.
Most recently, Amber Summerell, India Thomas,
Sophie Feboul and Chelsie Kirman swam in the Western Counties Age
Group Championships, also at Millfield. Amber competed in the 100m
Breaststroke and the 200m Breastroke and reached the final in both
events. She gained a 7th place in the 100m and 8th place in the
200m recording some big PB's on the way and taking the scalps of
some of the West's top swimmers. India reached the final of the
200m Butterfly and swam magnificently to win 5th place. Unfortunately,
she then proceeded to injure her ankle and was unable to swim in
the 100m Butterfly, for which she was highly fancied. Sophie qualified
for 4 events and gained a reserve slot in the final of the 200m
Fly. Chelsie swam in the 100m Breastroke and did extremely well
against a very tough field.
All in all, Clevedon fielded a record number
of swimmers from Clevedon in the annual regional championships and
proved, once again, that the club is really going places and continuing
to reach new heights.
