Twenty one swimmers represented Clevedon Swimming
Club at the annual Somerset Sprints competition at Hutton Moor on
Sunday 1st October. Between them they got through to a remarkable
19 finals - swimming against the best swimmers in the county and
in one instance the World!. A surprise competitor was Matthew Clay,
the current Commonwealth Gold medallist at 50m Backstroke, swimming
for his home club - Chard. He gave a magnificent display of sprint
swimming that will stay in the squad's memories for a very long
time.
Clevedon's finalists were: Hayley Burston, Bethan Clinton, Sophie
Feboul (4), Jenni Gilbert (2), George Harris (2), Sophie Hicks,
Eleena Ibal (4), Chelsie Kirman, Laura Neal, Stephanie Reynolds,
and Amber Summerell. Special congratulations are due to Sophie and
Ellena who reached finals in all four strokes.
Highlights included podium finishes from Sophie Feboul who won Bronze
in the 50m Butterfly and Amber Summerell who took the Silver in
the 50m Breaststroke. Also outstanding was the girls 11 - 12 yrs
Breastroke final where Clevedon had no fewer than 3 swimmers! Competing
against Millfield School and the excellent Taunton Deane club, to
name but two, the team did extremely well and were clearly delighted
with their success.
PB's were achieved by: Danielle Appleford, Hayley Burston, Jo Cox,
Sophie Feboul, Jenni Gilbert, Rosemary Harris, Sophie Hicks, Emma
Hopkins, Lisa Hutchinson, Ellena Ibal, Tom Jones, Chelsie Kirman,
Ruby Lynch, Laura Neal, Rebecca Parsons, Stphanie Reynolds, Tom
Riddell Amber Summerell and Kelly Waygood.
