The Clevedon squad travelled to Keynsham on Saturday
14th October to take part in the first gala of the National Speedo
League series. It turned out to be a tense affair with Clevedon
battling for third place with the three other English clubs for
most of the evening. Two Welsh sides; Blaenau Gwent and Glamorgan
Valleys are combination squads made up from several clubs each and
they raced away in their own separate contest. The quality of the
opposition meant that individual and relay success was less common
than usual with only Amber Summerell, Megan Prideaux and Rachel
Aldington winning races. However, enough second and third places
were gained to ensure Clevedon third position and top English club
on the night.
Final Positions were:
Blaenau Gwent 238
Glamorgan Valleys 213
Clevedon 155
Newton Abbot 154
Southwold 146
Bristol Central 137
This leaves Clevedon in a strong position to consolidate
their position in the second division of the West league, which
they gained after promotion in the season before last, in the two
remaining Speedo League galas.
In a slow pool, Matthew Bray, Sophie Feboul, Jenni
Gilbert and Will Powell achieved PB's.
