Clevedon Swimming club volunteer, Sue Clinton,
has been honoured by Swimming's national governing body, the Amateur
Swimming Association, with one of their top annual awards. Sue has
been awarded the Community Award in recognition of the work she
has done in building links between the swimming club and local schools.
Sue's nomination was put to Somerset ASA who ranked
it highest in the county and the nomination was forwarded to the
West region, where it again came out on top, before being passed
through to the national body, where it won the Community Award.
Sue was among Four volunteers recognised nationally
for awards in four different categories, Sue's Community Award included.
Sue's work in recent years has helped create strong links with local
schools, encouraging participation in swimming and also in competitions.
Sue's work has offered school pupils in Clevedon
opportunities and experiences that may not have been available to
them otherwise. Some pupils have even reached national finals, thanks
to Sue's work, giving them a first experience of national competition.
Sue's award was meant to be presented to her in
Stratford on Avon on Friday 27th October, but unfortunately she
couldn't attend due to a prior engagement in Paris! Instead Chris
Neal, Team Manager and Competition Secretary of Clevedon Swimming
club attended in her place
and accepted the award on her behalf.
Sue popped down to the pool on her return where
press officer was waiting as she was presented with the award:

Further stories for the awards can be found on
the ASA
Website and also the SwimWest
Websites.
Congratulations Sue!
