Seventeen Clevedon swimmers represented the club
at the recent Avalon Open Meet, held amidst the plush surroundings
of Millfield School. Once again, the squad did us proud in this
prestigious Level 2 long course meet. Bethan Clinton led the way
with a Gold in the 50m Breaststroke and a bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.
Sophie Feboul picked up silver in the 400m Freestyle, George Harris
won silvers in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly and a bronze
in the 50m Freestyle. Sophie Hicks bagged Silver in the 50m Fly,
Megan Prideaux won bronze in the 100m Back and Stephanie Reynolds
gained bronze in the 50m Fly.
Some massive PB's were notched up and these are
included in the following haul: Steve Bowen (2), Bethan Clinton
(2), Sophie Hicks, Lisa Hutchinson (2), Chelsie Kirman (5), Megan
Prideaux (3), Tom Riddell (3) and Vicky Smith. Danielle Appleford,
George Harris, Lee Hicks, Heather Jones, Tom Jones, Ruby Lynch,
Laura Neal and Stephanie Reynolds also swam some distances for the
first time at long course and so automatically registered PB's.
The following week, Chelsie Kirman flew the flag
for Clevedon, over in Wales, at the City of Cardiff Autumn Splash
held at Penarth. She competed against the best of the young Welsh
swimmers and in 4 events didn't finish outside the top 8! Her highlight
was a stunning 6.3 second PB on the 200m Backstroke as well as a
PB in the 100m Fly.
Dave Stewart, meanwhile, was on National duty
at the sumptuous Ponds Forge location in Sheffield. Dave is one
of the more mature Clevedon swimmers and was competing in the ASA
Masters Championships. He swam in five events and excelled himself
in the 50m Breast by gaining a PB!
