Clevedon Swimming Club started the 2007 competitive
season in the same way that they ended 2006. The junior squad recorded
a stunning victory in the first gala of this year's Mini - Series
at Easton Leisure Centre in Bristol on Saturday 6th January. The
team led from start to finish and, despite an admirable fight back
from Bishopsworth that saw them draw level at one point, Clevedon
eventually ran out as comfortable winners by 11 points.
Individual race winners were: Amber Summerell
(2), Danielle Appleford, Sophie Hicks (2), Chelsie Kirman, Matthew
Bray (2), Rebecca Parsons, Harry Thornton and Elliot Poulter. Relay
winners were: Ruby Lynch, Heather Jones, Danielle Appleford, Laura
Neal (2), Guy Prideaux, Elliot Poulter, William Instance, Matthew
Bray, Rebecca Parsons, Amber Summerell, Sophie Hicks and the Canon
team.
Matthew Bray (2), Bethan Clark, Sophie Feboul,
Rosemary Harris, Lee Hicks, Suzannah King, Chelsie Kirman, Ruby
Lynch, Rebecca Parsons, Liam Wakefield and Sabrina Wakefield all
achieved personal bests on the night. It was a close call for the
Star Swimmer Award between several candidates who either performed
exceptionally well or were outstanding in supporting their team
mates. Sophie Hicks, Jared Overton and Rebecca Parsons were all
nominated.
On a sad note, this was Harry Thornton's last
Mini Series gala as he will be too old to compete in the next one.
His performances and all round attitude will be very difficult to
replace.
