Clevedon Swimming club had a very strong contingent
at the Avalon Open Meeting at Millfield School over the weekend
of 27th & 28th January. A highly successful weekend was spearheaded
by Amber Summerell who picked up a hatrick of Gold medals in the
three Breastroke events, 50m 100m and 200m and a Bronze in the 200
Individual Medley. Ellena Ibal also picked up a Gold in the 50m
Backstroke. They were joined on the podium by Chelsie Kirman, Silver
in the 100m Backstroke, and Matthew Bray with Silver in the 50m
Freestyle. Other top six placings and medals went to Ellena Ibal,
Jenni Gilbert, Megan Prideaux, Charlotte Powell, Matthew Bray and
Elizabeth Warnes.
This was the first big open meet of the year and
swimmers from all over the South West were joined by swimmers from
Wales and as far away as the home counties. The fact that 26 swimmers
from Clevedon swam demonstrated the strength in depth that the club
now enjoys. PB's were gained by: Danielle Appleford (5), Matthew
Bray (2), Hayley Burston (5), Jenni Gilbert (6), Sophie Hicks (5),
Ellena Ibal (4), Heather Jones (5), Tom Jones (3), Suzannah King
