Several of Clevedon Swimming Club's youngest stars
represented their schools in the E.S.S.A. National Primary School
Relay Champonships held at Millfield School during April. Over 45
schools competed from all over the South West and the local schools
did really well! All Saints, Clevedon had Susannah King, Guy Prideaux,
William Mathias and Susannah Lambert from the swimming club and
they finished 8th in the Freestyle and 4th in the Mixed Stroke relays.
They missed out on a place in the National Finals by only 0.74 seconds!
Ben Horner's Clifton High School finished 3rd in the Free and 4th
in the Mixed stroke. St Nicholas Chantry had Emily Harden, Matt
Bray, Ben Capern, Becci Garland, Sam Knowlton, Luke Maidment and
Polly Tucker swimming for them and came 6th in the Girls Mixed stroke,
8th in the Girls Freestyle and Boys Mixed Stroke and 10th in the
Boys Freestyle. Highdown Junior school, Portishead came 18th in
both the Girls Freestyle and Girls Mixed, Bethany Hodge and Olivia
Coombes representing the club. Golden Valley Primary, Nailsea entered
the event for the first time and came a very creditable 16th in
the Mixed Stroke and 17th in the Freestyle - Megan Finnie representing
CASC.
Many of these teams will be back in action on 19th May at Strode
Road swimming pool 3pm start, as Clevedon Swimming Club are again
hosting a primary schools relay race as part of their annual Novice
Gala competition. Schools currently entered are Yeo Moor Junior,
All Saints, St Nicholas Chantry, Mary Elton (all Clevedon) Golden
Valley from Nailsea and St Peters, Highdown and Portishead Primary
from Portishead. This is the first year for Golden Valley and for
Highdown and they are warmly welcomed. A keen contest is expected
given the experience available to the teams from the swimming clubs
members.
