Meanwhile, over at Millfield School, for the past
two weekends three of Clevedon's elite swimmers have been representing
the club in the Western Counties Age Group Championships. To qualify
for this competition is a fabulous achievement and only the best
swimmers in the West of England make it.
Chelsie Kirman qualified for both 100m and 200m
Backstroke events and gained creditable 21st and 27th placings despite
being some distance off her best form. India Thomas knocked a startling
4.19 seconds off her 100m Butterfly time on her way to 13th place.
Clevedon's best performer at the Championship's
was Amber Summerell. She qualified for 4 events - the 100m Backstroke
where she set a 3.06 second PB and came 28th, the 100m Breaststroke
where she took 2.36 seconds off her PB in the heats, whilst qualifying
in second place for the final. She finished 3rd in the final to
bring back the Bronze medal. She also swam in the 200m Breaststroke,
qualifying in 5th place for the final with another PB of 1.52 seconds
and finishing 6th in the final. Previously a Breaststroke specialist,
Amber demonstrated the progress she is making in all strokes with
12th place in the 200 IM and yet another PB, this time of 2.24 seconds.
