News: Speedo Round 1, Clevedon

The first round of the National Speedo League Division 2 was hosted by Clevedon at Strode Road on Saturday 13th October. It was a tense evening, the first Speedo Gala of the season and a tough set of competing clubs. Newton Abbot, West Wilts and Bournemouth Dolphins, especially, are all clubs with frightening reputations and the competition promised to be fierce. This proved to be the case and a very close contest developed between Clevedon, West Wilts 'B' and Newton Abbot. Newton Abbot led from the start, with Clevedon and West Wilts 'B', neck and neck, just behind. Some stunning individual swims and a fine block of relay performances at the end gave Clevedon a winning margin and a successful start to the Speedo campaign.

Final Points Position:-
Clevedon 203
Newton Abbot 198
West Wilts 'B' 177
Southwold 158
Bristol Central 158
Bournmouth Dolphins 'B' 152

Due to the quality of the competition, all points gained were extremely valuable and the gala was won on overall team consistency. However, some fabulous performances gained maximum points and individual wins came from:
Chelsie Kirman, Megan Prideaux, Matt Bray (2), Ellena Ibal, Amber Summerell and Harry Thornton.

Relay victories went to:
Chelsie Kirman (2), Hayley Burston (3), Jenni Gilbert (3), India Thomas, Megan Prideaux, Ellena Ibal, Amber Summerell and the girls 300m Relay squad.

PB's were few are far between in slow water conditions and went to:
Steve Bowen, Matt Bray, Tom Jones (2) and Chesie Kirman.
