News: Weston Invitation Novice Gala

Clevedon Swimming Club had 21 swimmers in action at a splendidly organised Novice gala hosted by Weston Super Mare Swimming Club at Hutton Moor on 17th November. Top three placings went to Nicholas Bray, Emily Bushrod, Ellie Chappell (4), Joel Holdaway, Daniel Jones (4), Robert Jones (2), George Leaman (2), Joel Lomax, Olivia Richardson (2), Ellie Varney and Callum Vickery (3). This was an impressive performance from lots of swimmers in their first competitive event. The squad were swimming against swimers from Weston and Backwell swimming clubs and the potential on view suggested that we were seeing many stars of the future.

All the above swimmers set new PB's as did: Annabelle Birkett, Christopher Burnett, Lucy Bushrod, Courtney Coles, Olivia Finnie, Laura Hearn, Bethany Hodge, Zack Holdaway, Emma Sudol and Aimee Swinton-Clark.

Finally, a word of congratulations is due to all the swimmers who swam for Clevedon Community School in the recent ESSA Schools gala at Millfield. The majority of the squads were Clevedon Swimming club veterans and they put in some stunning performances in the West of England School Championships. Pride of place must go to the Intermediate Girls squad who finished 4th in both the Freestyle and Medley Relays. Considering that the top 3 places went to Millfield School (Speedo National League Premier Division), Kelly College (Speedo National League Premier Division) and Plymouth College (which feeds Plymouth Leander Swimming Club, Speedo National League Premier Division) Clevedon Community School was not only top state school in these races, but far from disgraced against the 3 top swimming schools in the country. The Junior Girls also swam well to finish 8th and 11th, Boys Juniors 12th and 14th and Boys Intermediate 9th and 10th.
