News: Keynsham Invitation & Four Seasons Winter

It was a busy night for Clevedon Swimming Club on Saturday 26th January as two coaches took two separate squads to galas on the same night. The senior squad was in action at Keynsham swimming pool, taking part in the invitatonal Keynsham Natwest Trophy. Two top teams from Keynsham and Stroud took first and second places and it was a joy to watch some of their top ranked stars in action. Clevedon caused a minor sensation by snatching third place by just two points from Weston, beating them in a competitive gala for the first time in living memory. Final points and placings were:

Stroud 230
Keynsham 'A' 215
Clevedon 179
Weston Super Mare 177
Bristol Penguins 145
Keynsham 'B' 73

Amber Summerell won the 13 and under Breastroke, Elliot Poulter won the 11 and under Backstroke, Tom Jones took the 13 and under Fly, Chelsie Kirman the 15 and under Back and Ban Horner the 11 and Under Breaststroke. Elliot Poulter, Ben Horner, Guy Prideaux and Patrick Riddell won the 11 and under Medley Relay. All of these were fantastic achievement given the standard of the opposition. Jenni Gilbert, Steph Reynolds, Tom Jones, Nick Kelly, Kelsey Khardine, Abi Sudol and Elizabeth Warnes set new PB's

Meanwhile the youngsters were at Burnham on Sea for a Four Season series gala. It was an emotional evening as this was the last gala to be hosted at this pool before it is demolished. Clevedon finished fourth on the night with some amazing swims from a very inexperienced squad. Final points were:

Henleaze 190
Burnham 178
Backwell 155
Clevedon 138
Bishopsworth 93

Christopher Warren, Suzannah King, Aimee Swinton-Clark, George Leaman and Laura Neal won individual races. Aimee Swinton-Clark (2), Ellie Varney (2), Ellie Chappell (2) and Emma Sudol (2) were in the doubly victorious relay squad.

Suzannah King was named Star Swimmer not just for swimming well but for supporting and looking after the younger swimmers. This is a team that is rapidly improving and no less than 23 of them achieved PB's on the night.
